My Experience with Polarity Therapy by Nick Moon
I'll start my story by explaining how I came to be treated through Polarity Therapy. I was probably the least likely candidate to try a healing art to treat any disease. I grew up with nothing but orthodox medical care; believing that doctors knew everything about my conditions and were most interested in curing me. However, my sweetheart Ginger, has educated me about medicine and medical doctors based on her many years as an insider in the healthcare field. I began to understand that the majority of medical doctors do not seek to find a root cause of disease; they simply treat symptoms with medicines that sometimes are worse than the condition. The healthcare industry is a business that benefits in keeping us sick...
Ginger's disenchantment with orthodox medicine led her to study many healing art forms, one being Polarity Therapy. I began to overcome my skepticism as she encouraged me to make lifestyle changes, like drinking much more water and
eating less (none in her opinion) animal products. She explained these changes could eliminate the need for my prescription medications. I made these changes and now I no longer take medications for high blood pressure, urination difficulty, and acid reflux.
Further lessening my skepticism, in late 2011, I developed what was diagnosed as carpal tunnel syndrome, with numbness in three fingers and my palm on the left hand. The recommendation was surgery. Instead of blindly trusting the doctor Ginger asked me to give her a chance to find the cause and eliminate it. She found that instead of carpal tunnel I had scar tissue in my forearm that was compressing the nerves. Through Ginger's treatment, integrating neuro-muscular, polarity, and other bodywork modalities, my numbness went away in few weeks.
At that point I was becoming more open to healing arts, but not yet "all in." Ginger convinced me that I could possibly be an effective practitioner of Polarity Therapy. Since retiring from a 31-year career in the nuclear power industry I have
been looking for what I am supposed to do next with my life. So I agreed to attend a meeting with Eleanora Lipton to discuss participating in her six-month training in polarity therapy. A month before the meeting I was suddenly struck with Bell's Palsy.
Bell's Palsy is a condition of sudden paralysis of the facial muscles, usually on one side of the face. It makes half of the face appear to droop, the smile is one-sided, the eye on that side resists closing, taste is lost on the affected side of the tongue, and the stapes bone in the ear is paralyzed causing sensitivity to loudness. Approximately 40,000 people are affected in the U.S. each year. The cause is unproven but is believed to be the result of swelling and inflammation of the facial nerve that controls the muscles on one side of the face perhaps due to viral infection. The condition is normally
temporary with symptoms improving in three months and complete recovery (in 71% of cases) in about six months. Treatment is commonly corticosteroids and antiviral drugs but these have not been proven a real benefit over no treatment at all.
A portion of the day with Eleanora consisted of purification breathing. During this practice my still partially paralyzed lip began to spasm. At the time I attributed this to my nervousness as well as a visceral reaction from my resistance to
what I called the mysticism and spirituality being implied. I was close to deciding that this whole idea was not for me since I was reacting in such a way and was so far out of my comfort zone.
The last part of the day consisted of an individual polarity treatment by Eleanora. I went into it vowing to give my best shot at being open to the experience. During this amazing experience many things happened to my whole body. But most
amazing, my face first began tingling all over and then began to spasm in all areas that had been affected by the paralysis. It became obvious that my face was “waking up” from its sleep. My smile was all the way back, my frown too. Of course,
still being the “old Nick” I suppressed my outward emotions but I felt like crying I was so astonished and relieved. Then and there I was resolved to continue my study of Polarity Therapy.
On a spiritual note (this is obviously the “new Nick” talking now) I believe that my Bell’s Palsy was a message from God. I have been asking Him since my retirement what He wants me to do with the rest of this life. He told me through the
miracle of getting Bell’s Palsy and being cured that I am to pay it forward through this kind of work.

"Eleanora,
I thoroughly enjoyed the yoga intensive last Sat! It amazed me how quickly 3 hours flew by! After a 6-7 year hiatus of strictly doing cardio & personal training, I began taking yoga classes again about 6 weeks ago & am really enjoying it. Your class has added a whole other dimension to my experience & well-being. The work was challenging at times but it was inspiring to persevere... all at whatever level I was comfortable. I look forward to participating again, especially in the N Georgia mountains!
All my best,
Amy"

"Eleanora,What did I expect? Well, I was expecting it to be intense and much more physically demanding, based on the title of the 3-hour session. I believe I now know that it was meant to be intense from the standpoint of exposing one to all aspects of yoga: mind, body and spirit. Many times one forgets that yoga has many components. In fact the mind and spirit aspects are much harder for me and thus “more intense” in that respect. Our session incorporated longer periods of time than I expected where we were able to reflect on what we were doing, from various perspectives. I liked that. I liked the periods of meditation which we often don’t have the time for in a one hour class.
What could be improved? Some of your explanations and descriptions of the mind & spirit aspect were hard to understand and I was not always sure I understood. Perhaps there is an easier way to explain it for the “yoga neophyte”?
Hope this helps.
See you Wednesday!

"Yoga has helped me increase my strength levels and focus on alignment, reducing pain in my feet. It also lowers my stress levels and energizes me in both my work and play!" - J.Heinrich
"I would say that discovering you and polarity yoga has been one of the greatest discoveries of my life! The one stretch you showed me was life changing in that it stopped the hip pain I had been having for years. The various movements we make feel so good to/for my body. I wish everyone could experience at least one class with you. If they did, they would feel the great benefit(s) and be hooked. You are so knowledgeable. You have had a stretch for any area of mine that has needed work. Thank you for what you do. Thank you for being who you are. Namaste."
